Make Your Voice Heard

  • Register and Vote
  • Become active in the campaigns of candidates of your choice.
  • Attend fund-raising events for candidates of your choice.
  • Communicate your concerns to your legislators. Provide useful information and be specific about what you want your representative to do.
  • Write a letter. For most issues a letter is the best way to get your point across to your representative. Mention the Bill number; show you're familiar with the subject. Bring out any new facts. Be brief and accurate. Type or write clearly. Use personal stationery or plain paper unless the text has been approved as company policy.
  • Send a telegram. Only for special matters.
  • Call your representative. Ask for the administrative aide, speak briefly and make your point clear.
  • Meet face-to-face with your representative to convey the seriousness of your concern. Be prepared to present your case. Make these visits only when scheduled.
  • Testify before a committee or legislative body. Be willing to take a public stand. Speak calmly and clearly. Be honest. If you do not know the answer to a question, offer to respond to it in writing at a later date. Rehearse your testimony before appearing. Distribute a typed copy of your testimony in advance, if possible.
  • Enlist the support of individuals and organizations that share your position on an issue.
  • Contact the Chamber of Commerce and inform us of your concerns.
