Business

All-American City

One of the most important decisions facing any business owner is: location. With our proximity to major interstates (I-70 & I-75) and major airports (Dayton & Columbus) – not to mention a highly-qualified local workforce - Springfield is the ideal location for growing your business. One of the nation’s most respected economic development publications, Site Selection Magazine, rated us number two in 2009 for development projects in the country for a city our size.

Our economic development philosophy is to be welcoming to new prospects and nurturing to those who have been here for one or 150 years. The award winning and innovative Hiring, Investing,Training, Space (HITS) expansion and retention initiative contacts more than 1,000 companies annually in Clark County, asking if they are doing any of the four activities. If the answer is “yes,” they are offered the expertise of the 40-plus partners who can help them find the resources they need, saving them thousands of dollars and, perhaps more importantly, time.

You will find everything from distribution warehouses, manufacturing, high tech industry and insurance service providers in Greater Springfield.

Our Nextedge Applied Research and Technology Park is anchored by the Advanced Virtual Engine Test Cell (AVETeC) with LexisNexis, Qbase, SAIC Springfield Solutions Center and Spectra Newport among its neighbors.

On the western side of the county is the headquarters to Speedway fuel stations and convenience stores with locations throughout the Midwest. The company has more than 700 employees at its Clark County site.

Insurance services provider Assurant Specialty Property has a three-building campus on Leffel Lane and is the largest single-site employer in Clark County with more than 1,700 employees and growing.

Another insurance services provider, Code Blue, announced in 2010 that it was expanding outside its Wisconsin headquarters and has opened an office in downtown Springfield with prospects for 300 jobs within five years.

PrimeOhio Corporate Park is home to the largest cluster of industrial sector businesses in the county. The park hosts manufacturing, steel and food processors, distributors and others. A second such park, PrimeOhio II, is being developed across I-70.

Manufacturing remains an important sector with Navistar, the medium duty truck manufacturer, having a presence in the community for more than 100 years.

Our location makes us appealing to food distributors, including Dole Fresh Vegetables, Bob Evans Farms, Reiter Dairy, Woeber Mustard, Aldi and Gordon Foods. Most all distribution for Bob Evans Restaurants comes out of the AirPark Ohio facility.

As mentioned, our economic development team of experienced professionals is anxious to help potential new companies and existing ones. At a press conference announcing his intention to expand to Springfield, SelectTech Services President Scott Sullivan said the primary reason his company chose this location was due to the cooperation he found among local officials, saying he did not find that in other places.

Whether you are bringing in a few hundred jobs, are a one-person start-up or an established local company, assistance is only a phone call away.
