Springfielders are known as a hard-working, dedicated bunch. But when work is
over, we definitely like to play!
The centerpiece of our recreational amenities is
Buck Creek
State Park. Consisting of 1,900 acres of land and 2,100 acres of
water via the C.J.
Brown Reservoir, Buck Creek State Park is a haven for fishermen, bikers,
boaters, hikers, and runners. For additional miles of biking and trails, The
Little Miami Scenic Trail is a popular 10-mile trek that leads to John
Bryan State Park and the Glen Helen Nature Preserve.
Springfield’s new project,
EcoSports Corridor,
has facilitated the development of recreational whitewater areas for kayaking
and canoeing, along with a new bouldering park and proposed mountain biking
trail. If you are looking for a less-extreme sport, head over to one of Greater
Springfield’s nine golf courses, including the second-ranked private club in
Ohio at the
Springfield Country Club.
Springfield’s park system, part of the National Trail Parks & Recreation
District, has long been the envy of other Ohio cities.
Snyder Park
includes an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, playgrounds, picnic shelters and
scenic lagoons.
Veteran’s Park is home to the Springfield Museum of Art
and one of the finest outdoor amphitheatres in the state, which plays host to
our annual Summer Arts Festival.
With the newly completed
Splash Zone
Water Park, opened last year, and planning for a new Family Ice Arena
underway, we haven’t forgotten about the kids. Children can also participate in
organized sports leagues, activities through the YMCA, or just enjoy themselves
at one of Springfield’s fantastic parks.
